Another World

June 5, 2026, Bergama Cultural Center, Bergama - İzmir

July 19, 2026, Atölye Ayvada, Ayvalık - Balıkesir

The exhibition, which opened in Bergama in June and in Ayvalık in July, consists of paintings created by children aged 6-10 living in Soma, Bergama, and Ayvalık following our invitation.

Our Invitation Letter to Children:

Have you ever wondered where the electricity we use comes from?

When you turn on a lamp, charge a tablet, or press a button… How is this energy generated?

What happens to nature when this energy is produced?

But can everyone benefit from this energy in the same way?

What and who produces this energy?

What if there were other ways to produce energy? Could a more equitable relationship be established between nature and humanity? What do you think a more equitable world would look like?

What you think, feel, and imagine is important. You can paint something you've seen, or even a world that doesn't exist at all. We're curious to know what you're thinking. We want to share your painting with everyone at the exhibition opening on June 5th at the Bergama Cultural Center.

This picture will show how you view the world and what kind of world you imagine.

In Ayvalık, Özay Sır Kurunaz from Atölye Ayvada, in Soma, Bahar Memiş from the Social Rights Association, and in Bergama, Ayberk Balcı from Studio 35 conveyed our call to the children and guided them in the intellectual framework of the exhibition. The "Another World" painting exhibition by children aged 6-10 invites the viewer to consider utopia not as a distant ideal to be reached, but as a field of possibilities blossoming from the present.

Exhibition opening in Ayvalık on July 19th, at Atölye Ayvada.

The "Between Contradictions, Possibilities, and Utopias" cultural and artistic project is a transdisciplinary initiative that, following the 2014 mining disaster in Soma, which became a focal point of academic efforts, examines the transition from coal mining to renewable energy through the concepts of "environmental justice" and "just transition," while simultaneously discussing the impact of renewable energy plants opened in nearby Bergama and Ayvalık on the local context through exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, panels, and talks, all centering on the concept of "dispossession."
